I write stories I want to read that nobody's written yet. That sounds romantic until you realize it mostly means sitting alone making fictional people miserable for reasons I can't fully explain.

The short version: I write character-driven science fiction. The longer version: I write about people who are stubbornly, specifically human in places designed to kill them. They have philosophical problems they don't know they have. They make the wrong call. They fix things that were fine and break the things that mattered. Sometimes they figure themselves out. Mostly they don't.

Nothing here ends happy just because you want it to. It ends the way it should. Usually that's sad. I'm told this is a personality flaw, not a writing style, but either way it's what you're getting.

I have a dim view of us, if I'm being straight about it. Not in a hopeless way. More in a way where I think we could be so much better and probably won't be, and the writing is me working out whether that matters.
